About ViralCombatTV
Our Story
ViralCombatTV started when Marcus Rivera spent $120 on boxing gloves recommended by a "top 10" list — and discovered after two weeks of sparring that the wrist support was non-existent and the padding compressed to nothing. The review site that recommended them had never thrown a punch.
Marcus realized that most combat sports gear reviews were written by content farms that had never stepped inside a gym. The "best gloves for beginners" articles were just rewritten Amazon descriptions, and the training guides were generic fitness content dressed up with MMA keywords. He started ViralCombatTV to create the resource he wished existed — gear reviews from people who actually train, and technique guides cross-referenced with credible coaching sources.
Who We Are
We are a small editorial team of combat sports practitioners and researchers. Our team collectively holds 15+ years of training experience across boxing, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai, and MMA. We review gear we have actually used in training, and we cross-reference our observations with feedback from Reddit communities like r/bjj, r/MuayThai, and r/amateur_boxing, where real practitioners share honest opinions.
Meet the Team
Marcus Rivera — Editor & Lead Reviewer
Marcus has trained in boxing and Muay Thai for 7 years with 3 amateur bouts under his belt. He handles gear reviews with a focus on gloves, shin guards, and heavy bag equipment. Before starting ViralCombatTV, he reviewed fitness equipment for a consumer electronics publication. Every gear recommendation on this site has been tested during actual training sessions — not just unboxed for a photo.
Jason Holt — BJJ & Grappling Content
Jason is a BJJ purple belt with 5 years on the mat. He writes our grappling gear reviews (gis, rash guards, knee pads) and training guides. Jason focuses on the practical details that matter to grapplers: how a gi shrinks after washing, whether rash guard stitching holds up during no-gi rolls, and which knee pads actually stay in place during guard work. His approach is methodical — he wears test gear for a minimum of 6 weeks before writing a word.
Nadia Cho — Research & Nutrition
Nadia handles our training nutrition content and product research pipeline. With a background in exercise science and 4 years of competitive kickboxing, she brings both academic rigor and practical understanding to topics like weight cutting, pre-workout supplementation, and recovery nutrition. Nadia cross-references manufacturer claims against published sports science research and WADA compliance standards.
How We Research & Review
Every product review and training guide follows our editorial process:
- Hands-on Testing: We use gear in real training sessions — sparring, drilling, rolling, and bag work. No desk reviews. Minimum 6 weeks of use before publishing.
- Community Research: We analyze hundreds of posts from Reddit, Sherdog, and martial arts forums to identify what experienced practitioners actually recommend versus what affiliate sites push.
- Spec Verification: We check manufacturer specs against actual measurements — glove weight, padding density, gi fabric GSM, and stitching quality.
- Expert Sources: Training technique content references published coaching methodologies, accredited instructor guidelines, and established competition rulesets (IBJJF, WBC, IFMA).
Editorial Independence
No brand has ever paid for a review on this site. We participate in the Amazon Associates Program, earning a small commission when you purchase through our links at no extra cost to you. This commission does not influence our ratings. We have given poor ratings to popular products and recommended lesser-known brands when they outperformed the market leaders.
